The Retreat-Don Bosco in collaboration with JEW Austria aims to bring a sustainable livelihood for the tribal Malayali community and also promotes organic farming culture in the region. It has been into the cause of planting trees in the Hill. It has already had a tree planting drive with Football Tournament. All the players were given plants to plant in their villages to be part of the tournament. Players became preservers of trees with this year’s tournament.

STDi has organized its second tree plantation drive on 7th March, 2021 at Sengadu in collaboration with the local youth group (Oratory), Panchayat leader, Ward member and the Middle School (Staff and Students). We wanted to create eco-consciousness among the people to save nature. Hence, we had a special programme organized for the people, youth and the school children in the premises of the Middle School. Fr. Selvakumar, SDB, the director of STDi welcomed the gathering and gave an orientation about the Program. Sengadu Panchayat president Mr. Senthil Babu highlighted that Nature is God’s gift and we need to use it and help the next generation also to use and enjoy its benefits. Then Mrs. Vanaja Kumari, the headmistress of the middle school motivated the students and all the people who were present to be part of the cause of planting trees and be the change makers. She also encouraged everyone to plant trees and to preserve it. Fr. Abraham Savarimuthu, SDB, the Administrator of the Retreat- Don Bosco explained the connection that we have with the nature. We are part of the nature and our life is naturally oriented.

After the orientation, the special invitees planted few saplings in the school campus. This tree plantation drive was something special for our organization. After conscientising the people, we distributed the plants to the people, youth and the children to plant in the village and to take care during this season. They all vowed that they would plant and bring change. Thus, our dream of planting trees in the Shevaroyhills is taking root and will continue in coming months.
