COVID19 RELIEF WORKS

SPS INDIA FOUNDATION always acts according to the signs of the times. It always responds to different life situations and aims to better the lives of the people through its interventions.

THE FIRST WAVE: The Shevaroy Hills which has a population of 70,000 people with around 15,000 households was in the lockdown and the people who depend on tourism and hotel industry were affected as everything was halting during the first wave form March 2020. As immediate relief, SPS INDIA Foundation reached out in 40 days: 50 Villages, with 1800 Provisions Kit (Rice, Groceries & Vegetables, 700 Masks, 1800 Households, 6000 Food Packets with 05 Team Leaders, 75 Volunteers, 04 NGOs, 04 Government Officials, 55 Donors, 15 Vehicles (Jeeps, Mini Trucks & Bikes). The target Groups were Tribal, poorest General public, Solid Waste Management (SWM) workers, Sanitary Workers, Stranded Gypsies, and Abandoned Elderly.

THE SECOND WAVE has hit the hills of Shevaroys very badly. The Corona positive cases started increasing sharply. There were ever some occasional deaths. It has spread to interior villages. A village of 50 houses has more than 50 cases. The entire hill is suffering lockdown from 6th April. The travel and tourism industry is totally shut. Hence, SPS India Foundation, The Retreat Don Bosco has set up a TASK FORCE consisting of medical team, Police departments, tahsildar and Block development office. The TASK FORCE has drawn up ACTION PLAN IN THREE PHASES and began working for the people.

PHASE I: AWARENESS, TESTING, VACCINATION & GROCERY/FOOD SUPPORT to Covid19 affected families (but a lot of them are in hunger due to no alternative livelihood)

PHASE II: Setting up COVID CARE CENTRE (with 100 beds. It is not easy to travel to Salem from different parts of the hills. Currently, Covid19 care centre only in Salem)

PHASE III: Setting up TREATMENT CENTRE (with 20 beds in existing primary government hospital).
