YERCAUD HEALTH AND WELLNESS FESTIVAL

On 24th February 2024, an extensive medical camp aimed at aiding tribal communities took place at the RC Church in Yercaud, Salem District. The event was a collaborative effort orchestrated by the SPS India Foundation in partnership with the Desai Foundation Trust, together with the valued collaboration of the Primary Health Center of Vazhavanthi, Yercaud. This medical camp had different kinds of checkups and services. The medical camp specialized in general body check-ups, eye examinations, spot x-ray for TB, gynecology check-ups, and even patient consultations with doctors.

The gynecology section of the medical camp addressed women’s health issues comprehensively. Expert gynecologists conducted consultations, screenings, and provided essential information on reproductive health. There was also a scanning available for the women. Women were able to discuss their concerns and receive guidance on family planning, menstrual health, and other related issues. The emphasis on preventive care and early detection was well-received by the attendees.

The general checkup area witnessed a significant turnout, with individuals of all age groups benefiting from comprehensive health assessments. Skilled healthcare professionals conducted thorough physical examinations, assessing vital signs, and identifying potential health risks. Health education sessions were conducted, focusing on lifestyle modifications and preventive measures, empowering attendees to make informed choices for a healthier life.

The eye checkup segment addressed visual health, providing eye examinations and vision screenings. Eye care professionals diagnosed refractive errors, distributed prescription glasses where needed, and educated participants on maintaining good eye health. Early detection of eye conditions and timely interventions were prioritized, contributing to the prevention of visual impairments.

The osteodensitometry checkup offered a specialized service for assessing bone health. Attendees, especially those at risk for osteoporosis and related conditions, underwent bone density tests. The results were shared with individuals, along with advice on nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes to promote bone health. This aspect of the medical camp aimed to raise awareness about the importance of bone density and preventive measures against osteoporosis.

In this camp, people who are afraid of synthetic drugs are also introduced to Siddha drugs and create confidence and awareness among the people. This medical camp has had a positive impact on the community’s health. The collaboration of healthcare professionals, DFT volunteers, and community youngsters ensured the seamless execution of this event. The provision of varied medical services under one roof contributed to a holistic approach to healthcare, addressing a range of health concerns prevalent in the community. The success of this medical camp underscores the importance of community-oriented healthcare initiatives in promoting well-being and preventive healthcare. The successful orchestration of this medical initiative was under the adept leadership of Dr. Thompson, the BMO of Vazhavanthi, Fr. Selvakumar, SDB, the Project Director of SPS India Foundation, and the well-wishers dedicated to the welfare of tribal communities.
