Don Bosco “Care-Home” – Nilavarapatti (Salem) and Namakkal
Salem district is virtually the heartland of truck trafficking in South India and a drought prone area. Salem and the adjacent Namakkal districts have the highest number of HIV positive and AIDS affected people in Tamil Nadu state.
At any time, Don Bosco Care Home, Nilavarapatti and “Anbu Illam” at Namakkal have been supporting at least 150 infected/affected children with free boarding, food, education, nutritious food and healthcare. More than 75 infected/affected children are supported for education as non-boarders – staying with their parents or guardians.
More than 150 PLWHA households are being taken care of with counselling and motivation to improve their treatment adherence and to instil positive attitude towards life, also with free supply of nutritious food supplements. A good number of HIV infected women are given training in garments making to improve their household income.
