MEGA MEDICAL CAMP

On the 21st of August 2023, an expansive medical camp aimed at aiding tribal communities took place at the Government High School in Nagalur, Yercaud, Salem District. The event was a collaborative effort orchestrated by the SPS India Foundation (SPS) in partnership with the Desai Foundation Trust (DFT), alongside the valued collaboration of Anna Poorna Hospital in Salem and the Primary Health Centres of Vazhavanthi, Nagalur, and Yercaud.

In a collective display of dedication, volunteers hailing from PHC, DFT, and SPS, as well as interns from the esteemed Sacred Heart College in Tirupattur, worked collaboratively to ensure the event’s efficient organization and execution.

The medical camp encompassed a comprehensive array of specialized services, ranging from general body check-ups, dental care, and eye examinations to pediatrics, dermatology, surgery, gynecology, tuberculosis screening, x-ray diagnostics, and even consultations with Siddha doctors. A holistic range of fundamental health assessments were meticulously administered to all beneficiaries, addressing their diverse medical needs.

In the run-up to the event, a week-long preparation phase was undertaken. The corners and streets of Nagalur, Pattipadi Velur, and Semmanatham Pachayats were canvassed thoroughly, ensuring the message of the camp was communicated to every nook and cranny. This tireless effort resulted in the attendance of 305 beneficiaries, all of whom received expert guidance regarding their health.

The impact of the camp was palpable, with 10 individuals being provided with free cataract operations at Annapurna Medical College and Hospital. Additionally, numerous others were entrusted to the care of the local PHCs for ongoing support. The successful orchestration of this monumental medical initiative was under the adept leadership of Dr. Thompson, the BMO of Vazhavanthi, Fr. Selvakumar, SDB, the Project Director of SPS India Foundation, and the well-wishers dedicated to the welfare of tribal communities. This event stood as a testament to the power of collaboration and shared concern for the betterment of marginalized communities.
