WoMEn 1000+ Second Batch Loan Distribution

_mg_5226Second Batch Loan Distribution ceremony of WoMEn 1000+ project was held on 23rd October 2017 at Basin Bridge, Chennai. Rtn. R. Srinivasan, District Governor of RI District 3232 was the Chief Guest for the event. The event was also attended by Rtn P.T. Kumar, District Secretary, Rtn. Venkatesan, Assistant Governor, Rtn. Asha Marina, Governor’s Group Representative. On behalf of Rotary Club of Chennai Galaxy, Rtn Anshul Agarwal President, Rtn Alex Benjamin, Secretary, Rtn Nikhil Singhi, Club Trainer, Rtn Govindaraja, Club Advisor and many other past presidents graced the occasion.

The ceremony started with a prayer song by the Women SHG animators from Basin Bridge. After the prayer song, Miss Sangeetha of SPS India Foundation welcomed the gathering, introducing the chief guests and other dignitaries

_mg_5276Fr. Johnson, Director DBSSS briefed the works of DBSSS in the past years and explained how they would like the women of the locality to be economically empowered. Following Fr. Johnson’s address, the staff and SHG women from Basin Bridge felicitated all the dignitaries from Rotary. Fr Alphonse motivated the women with his inspirational and thought-provoking speech elucidating the vision and scope of the project.

SHG women performed cultural activities such songs and dance. Following the cultural programs, they shared their experiences with the self-help groups and their hardships in their business. They all expressed that the amount lent is not adequate for them venture into bigger businesses and requested for raising the loan amount.

_mg_5304Rtn. Alex Benjamin, Secretary of Rotary Chennai Galaxy, expressed that they are very much happy with how the project is being implemented. He also directed the women to utilize this fun for their businesses and not for any other purposes. He also added that the Rotary would expand the magnitude of the project in the future looking after the success of this initiative.

Rtn. R. Srinivasan, District Governor of RI District 3232, addressed the women SHG members and motivated them with his wonderful words of appreciation. He, in his speech briefly explained the history of Rotary Foundation and the works that they have been doing worldwide. He advised the women to make the best use of this opportunity to be empowered women.

“The Chief Guest Rtn. R. Srinivasan handed over the Cheques for loan amount to the self-help group members. In the second batch, 90 women from seven self-help groups would benefit from WoMEn 1000+ project.”
