GG1524801 – WoMEn 1000+

WOMEn 1000+(Women Micro Enterprises Network) is a project of the Rotary International under Global Grant 1524801 with major collaborations from Rotary Geleen in partnership with Rotary Belgium, Rotary Germany and Rotary Club of Chennai Galaxy. This a project is initiated and implemented to ‘increase the economic and social inclusion of 1000+ Self Help Groups Women of Tamil Nadu over a period of 5 years through micro enterprises activities.

SPS ME !

SPS ME (SPS Micro Enterprises) project was started as a pilot micro enterprises project. This initiative was funded by SPS Netherlands. 100 Women from Basin Bridge and Vilathikulam are getting benefitted through this project.

Vision

  • To create sustainable cooperative system (People’s Bank) at the end of five years.
  • Implementation of efficient and sustainable production methods and techniques for agricultural products through vocational training and guidance of micro entrepreneurs.
  • Financial assistance for asset creation to achieve the same. Procuring equipment, Warehouses, Cold Storage etc.,

Programme Partners & Implementing Organizations

This project WoMEn 1000+ is been implemented in two places Basin Bridge, Chennai and Vilathikulam in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu. They are two very distinct project sites, one is an urban settlement comprising of economically backward urban poor and the other is rural setting which totally in contrast with the other one. But irrespective of this distinction the ultimate aim or the purpose of this project is to empower women economically by supporting them in their business in a small way.

Basin Bridge

Basin Bridge is located in the Northern part of Tamil Nadu in the capital city of Chennai. This is one of the oldest settlements in Chennai. This locality consists of mainly slum dwellers and people from lower economic status or the urban poor.

In Basin Bridge, the project is implemented through DBSSS (Don Bosco Social Service Society) and administered through SURABI(Strategic Urban Rural Advancement Backing Institute, Chennai), Provincial Development Office of the Salesians of Don Bosco of Chennai Province.

Vilathikulam

Vilathikulam is a Taluk in Thoothukudi district located in the southern part of Tamil Nadu. This is predominantly a rural household setting, where the major occupations of the women are agriculture or allied activities.

Cauveri, Developmental office for the Trichy Province is the partnering organization for the project administration in Vilathikulam. The actual field implementation is done through Vembu(Vilathikulam Empowering Movement for Building the Underprivileged), a Salesian Ngo working in Vilathikulam
